Reporting to: Head of Customer Support

 

Job Purpose: Field Service/Commissioning Engineers provide expert technical support to an extensive customer profile which includes Luxury Yachts, Commercial Ships, Naval Platforms, and Special Purpose Craft.  This role requires the post holder to travel worldwide, sometimes for extended periods, and occasionally at short notice, to work on a variety of marine vessels, either afloat or in shipyards.  As this is a customer facing role, the ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills utilised in a technical support environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Service, repair and commissioning of all the company’s products, in-house and at customer sites worldwide
Assist systems engineers with preparation and testing of new systems and with the preparation of technical proposals
Assist with the development and assessment of new products
When office based, provide support assisting customers with technical problems via telephone and email

 

Additional Information:

This is a permanent position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:30 to 17:00
The role requires the post holder to work on customer sites, therefore having a full, valid passport and the ability to undertake worldwide travel is essential
A full clean driving licence is also necessary for this role
The post is subject to security checks as appropriate for the role
The post is subject to security checks as appropriate for the role (BPSS & MoD SC Clearance)

 

Minimum Educational Requirements:

HNC in a relevant electronic discipline with a minimum of 3 years’ experience of control and automation systems in a field service/commissioning role ideally within the marine service industry.

 

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Excellent interpersonal skills – able to communicate well via telephone and email with customers
Able to maintain professional and courteous at all times
Able to work under pressure to achieve deadlines
A team player, yet also capable of demonstrating initiative and working unsupervised
Lone worker ethic; able to identify needs/requirements and make productive and efficient use of both time and resources
Competent in computer technology and Ethernet networks
Able to diagnose faults and resolve issues using own initiative
Capable of writing/amending computer mimics
Cash/expense management
Full clean driving licence

 

Desirable Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Knowledge of analogue/digital monitoring and control systems and associated I/O hardware
Interfacing to third-party equipment with serial communications, RS 485, RS 232, Canbus, Modbus etc
Use and maintenance of PLC’s; e.g. Rockwell, Mitsubishi, Wago, Allen Bradley
Knowledge of older technologies, i.e. Arcnet would be an advantage
Experience of ship and marine systems e.g. power and propulsion control, chart systems, radar or communications
